Chef John’s French Onion Soup
A couple weeks ago, Chef John, yes, from Food Wishes, posted a recipe for French Onion Soup.
We have been so busy canning for the season, that I didn’t have time to make it yet, but I have kept the page in my bookmarks for two weeks. Each time I see the link, my mouth waters and I find myself starting to drool at the keyboard. Gross, I know.
Anyway, now that things have wrapped up on the canning front (we will be posting pics and updates on how much my wife actually did, yeah I am the lazy one), I will be trying this recipe very, very, soon.
The Broken Knife Pear
We’ve been canning our butts off around here.
Right now, in our kitchen, we have 15 dozen jars filled with all the yummy goodness we bought at the farmer’s market, and we still have apples and potatoes to finish.
I ha d a slight mishap with the pears though.

It’s not everyday that you break a knife while slicing a pear. I’m sure glad we have the apple peeler. With all the apples we have left to do, I could end up losing al lmy knives.
And Canning Season Begins
Here’s a picture of our bounty from the farmer’s market.
My wife spent all day Sunday peeling tomatoes and cooking them down to make tomato sauce and stewed tomatoes. I helped out from time to time, but she did the majority of the work. I chopped up all of the ingredients she needed for the cans of stewed tomatoes and measured them out into jars so she could add them real easy to her pot.

Tonight she has been peeling the last two boxes of tomatoes to make spaghetti sauce and some more tomato sauce. I think she will be happy if she doesn’t have to look at another tomato for the rest of the year.
A Day Of Silence

Fried Shrimp
I finally got to use that batter recipe with some shrimp. I have to say, it tasted just like the fried shrimp we used to get at Harry’s Cafe in Boulder City, when I was just a kid. I loved that stuff.

We made Mongolian Beef and rice as well. The shrimp was served with a sweet and sour sauce but I think a hot and spicy sauce like they used to serve at Harry’s would have been better.
Calzones
I just want to say, my wife makes some excellent calzones. I need to find out exactly what she did here, but I can say that one of those pictured did not survive the photoshoot.

Now I Have Seen It All

Pecan Pie
I need a break from the Chinese food.
The wife is thinking of making a pecan pie this week, so I thought I would find a video recipe for her to follow.
Stir Fried Noodle
In keeping with my Chinese food theme this week, I present, Stir Fried Noodle.
Mu Shu Pork
This video is a little weird as far as the narration goes. But after a long weekend with lots going on, I thought I would post something that actually looked good (at least at the time).
Yes, after a fun day at the library, I spent some quality time at imcooked. Can you tell?
